Pore Clogging Ingredients to Avoid if you Experience Acne

The skincare products you are using on a daily basis may be part of the reason behind why your skin keeps breaking out. There is an overwhelming amount of skin care products on the market and it can be difficult to choose the right products when dealing with acne-prone skin. There are products marketed towards acne-prone skin, but even some of these products may contain pore clogging ingredients. This unfortunately perpetuates the acne breakout cycle when products you are using should be helping clear your acne but continues the cycle of breaking out your skin. It is important to look at the ingredients label on all the products you are using - skin care products, makeup, shampoo, body wash, lotions, laundry detergent, and toothpaste.

It is frustrating when trying new skincare products that make claims such as “won’t clog pores” but the product may actually be worsening or contributing to the development of acne. Even a  product that is labelled “natural” and “organic” doesn’t mean it’s safe to use when dealing with acne. For example, in the past I would use coconut oil as a natural makeup remove. The coconut oil worked great to remove my makeup but little did I know at the time that the coconut oil I was using was part of the reason why my acne kept breaking out. Even though coconut oil is a natural ingredient, it is high on the comedogenic scale, meaning coconut oil is at a high risk of blocking the pores on your skin.

In order to make the best-informed product decisions for your acne-prone skin, I recommend that you read the labels on all products you are using and avoid the following ingredients on the list below.
